Dinner with Family

Tuva Elisabet Bjerkestrand Eid (they/them, b. 1997) is a multidisciplinary artist, musician and anthropologist. This is their first art exhibition, and will showcase paintings, ceramics and embroidery — all centred around queerness, collectiveness, and joy.

Tuva is the coordinator and founder of Broderikollektivet, which draws inspiration from embroidery collectives in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (“Linhas de Sampa” and “Bordados Militantes”, respectively) to make political patches to raise funds for queer and trans mutual aid. Through the collective, Tuva also holds other community workshops and facilitate collective textile artworks, some of which have been exhibited at Kunsthall Oslo for ASSATA library’s “educate, agitate, organize” exhibition in February 2024.

As they collect their work for a solo exhibition, it will be centered around how much queer collective means to them as an artist. Both in painting and ceramics, they see sexuality and intimacy as something playful and beautiful. Tuvas art is a sapphic antithesis to the cis-male gaze, and bursts with colours, energies, florals and portrayals of women and femme bodies. Tuva Elisabet Bjerkestrand Eid (de/dem, f.1997) er en multidisiplinær kunstner, musiker og antropolog. "Dinner with family" var deres første kunstutstilling, og stilte ut malerier, keramikk og broderi - sentrert rundt skeivt fellesskap og glede.

Tuva er koordinator og grunnlegger av Broderikollektive, som tar inspirasjon fra broderifellesskap i São Paulo og Rio de Janeiro ("Linhas de Sampa" og "Bordados Militantes"). Broderikollektivet lager små broderte lapper med politiske motiv som selges til inntekt for skeive og trans gjensidig hjelp. Gjennom kollektivet holder Tuva også kollektive workshops og fasiliteter for skapelsen av felles tekstil verk. Enkelte av disse har blitt stilt ut på Kunsthallen i Oslo av ASSATA biblioteks "educate, agitate, organize" utstillingen i Februar av 2024.

Deres solo utstilling vil vektlegge betydningen av skeive fellesskap for Tuva som kunstner. I både malerier og keramikk framstiller de seksualitet og intimitet som noe lekent og vakkert. Deres kunst er en "sapphic" antitese til det cis-kjønnede mannlige blikket, og er fylt av farger, energi, blomster og kvinnelige- og femmekropper. Denne utstillingen er en ode til kunstnerens valgte familie og betydningen av de kollektive.

Et av verkene som hang på veggen var en samling tallerkener malt med motiver til de seks stjernetegnene: "Aquarius", "Libra", "Scorpio", "Leo", "Sagittarius" og "Virgo".

One of the artworks mounted on the wall was a collection of plates painted with motives of the six starsigns: "Aquarius", "Libra", "Scorpio", "Leo", "Sagittarius" and "Virgo".

At the table

"At the table" var en kunstinstallasjon i hjerte av utstillingen "Dinner with Family". Det var et middagsbord dekt med kunstnerens keramikk, naturlig materialer og frukt som deltakerne ble invitert til å spise. Utstillingen var dedikert til, og en feiring av, de sterke båndene som dannes i en familie du velger selv.

"At the table" was an art installation at the heart of the exhibition "Dinner with Family". It was a dinner table laid with the artist’s ceramics, natural materials, and fruit which attendees were invited to consume. The exhibition was a dedication to, and a celebration of, the powerful bonds made in the family one chooses.
